Sunday’s match carries with it the possibility of Chelsea starting a WSL season with six consecutive home wins for the very first time.

After winning just one of their first six WSL games against Bristol City, Chelsea have won nine of the last 10, including winning each of their last four at home.

Meanwhile, Bristol City ended a run of 12 games without a win in the league last time out with a recent surprise victory against Manchester United, so will approach this fixture with less trepidation than they might otherwise. Nevertheless, they haven’t won successive league games since January 2019.

In the latest published Opta stats (compiled for Chelsea by a man in a camouflage jacket murmuring things like “Box 63 blue No10 foul, no booking” into his phone), Ji So-Yun is shown to have been directly involved in 55 WSL goals for Chelsea (32 goals, 23 assists); 11 more than any other player for the Blues.

Bristol City have started four different teenagers in the Women’s Super League this season (Katie Robinson, Georgia Wilson, Ebony Salmon and Poppy Pattinson); the most of any side in the competition.

City have levered themselves up to second from bottom in the league standings with the win against United. Bristol’s Ebony Salmon’s first-half strike meant Tanya Oxtoby’s Robins went three points clear of Liverpool.

Sunday’s match (2pm kick-off) will be dedicated to Chelsea Foundation to celebrate the work being done in the local area near Kingsmeadow, and around the world.

Pre-match, participants from Chelsea’s walking football programme and Kicks initiative will play matches against their peers from the Bristol City Robins Foundation on the five-a-side pitch by the stadium, and at half-time there will be a penalty shoot-out with mascots Stamford and Bridget.
