The Swiss miss Ramona Bachmann scored a double to keep the Blues’ league recovery on track after the early-season string of disappointing draws, making the player with Chelsea Women’s favourite individual song the toast of the fans.

She replaced Ji So-Yun in the starting line-up against the Hammers – Emma Hayes’ only change from the team that beat Liverpool at Kingsmeadow – for this hard-fought London derby (the first between the teams in the Womens Super League) at the Hornchurch stadium.

And didn’t she repay the confidence Hayes showed in her! Blues fans love chanting their ‘Na na na na na na na na, Na na na na na na na na, BACHMANN!’ terrace ditty for the striker who turns 28 on Christmas Day.

After travelling home, full of confidence, following their 6-0 win in the Champions League against Fiorentina, Chelsea were up against their old manager, Matt Beard, and their former players Gilly Flaherty, keeper Becky Spencer and Kate Longhurst (with an ankle injury meaning Claire Rafferty had to sit this one out).

The goals came in the second half, with Bachmann first beating the Irons’ defence in the 63rd minute before sending a shot flying, only to see it ricochet back off the post. As it poodled along the line she was able to finish the job with a simple tap-in.

Her second came four minutes from time, the forward charging goalwards in a countersurge and sending a divine shot into the net to clinch the Blues’ first away win in the league for the 2018-19 season… a stat that would have seemed unbelievable this time last year as Chelsea watzed to glory.

Next up, Yeovil Town’s visit to Kingsmeadow on Sunday November 18. For all Chelsea Women ticket news visit: http://purchase.tickets.com/buy/TicketPurchase?agency=CLFC_PUBLIC&organ_val=51291&schedule=list&_ga=2.146907127.1593336094.1538038070-13131943.1493031269
