Moonrise over Kingsmeadow

Chelsea, languishing in fifth place after just one win in five league outings, have made more touches in the opposition box than any other team this season.

The latest batch of Opta stats to be published out of Wembley Stadium by the Football Association for the Women’s Super League reveals that the Blues have already made 178 touches in the enemy’s 18-yard territory – a clear sign of the side’s attacking intent, even if the goal conversion rate has been relatively poor.

When it comes to scoring, Chelsea’s nemesis last weekend, Arsenal striker Vivienne Miedema, has created more big chances this season than any other player with six, and is also the joint top scorer with six goals (level with Nikita Parris of City).

Leaders Arsenal have only allowed the opposition 15 shots on target so far this season, fewer than any other side.

Chelsea’s Ji-So Yun has yet to assist a goal, but has created 17 goal scoring chances. Only Caroline Weir of Man City has made more this season (19).

After Sunday lunchtime’s trek to Birmingham, Chelsea Women have the tricky week ahead. They host Liverpool at 2pm on Sunday October 28 before the Halloween trip to Florence for the second leg of their Fiorentina double bill. Then it’s off on an away trip to West Ham on Sunday November 4.
